Climate change is an increasingly pressing global issue. The impact is felt in various sectors, from the economy to public health. In recent years, many studies have shown that shifting weather patterns, such as increasing average temperatures, extreme rainfall, and drought, have the potential to change the way we live. The agricultural sector is one of the most affected. Indonesia, as an agricultural country, faces serious risks to food production. Research shows that climate change could reduce grain yields by up to 20% in the next decade. This change can trigger food security to become increasingly vulnerable and affect food prices on the market. Apart from agriculture, climate change also has an impact on water resources. As extreme weather phenomena become more frequent, the quality and quantity of clean water available to the community is decreasing. By 2023, a report from the World Meteorological Agency warns that more than 40% of the global population is at high risk of water shortages. The health sector is also not immune from this impact. Climate shifts can increase the spread of infectious diseases. For example, mosquitoes that carry viruses such as dengue and malaria can reproduce more quickly in warmer temperatures. Research in several tropical countries shows that transmission of this disease increases with each degree of temperature increase. The social impacts of climate change are also very significant. The most vulnerable countries, including Indonesia, often experience population migration due to natural disasters such as floods and tsunamis. Recent analysis shows that as many as 1.2 million people in Indonesia are expected to become climate refugees by 2030 if mitigation steps are not taken immediately. Government policies must also adapt to these conditions. Many countries have begun implementing measures to reduce carbon emissions and create sustainable solutions. For example, the energy transition towards renewable sources such as solar and wind power, as well as reforestation programs to reduce the carbon footprint. Community participation in climate change mitigation efforts is also very important. Public awareness must be increased through environmental education and campaigns. Approaches from local to national levels are needed to build resilience against unavoidable impacts. Geopolitical competition is also a significant factor related to climate change. Some countries are investing heavily in green technologies to create comparative advantages. This poses a challenge for developing countries that need financial support to adapt and invest in more sustainable solutions. By understanding the impacts of climate change and developing strategies to deal with them, we can take more concrete steps towards a more sustainable future. Further research and international collaboration are key to meeting these challenges effectively. When every individual, organization and government plays an active role, we have a greater chance of reducing the impact of climate change and protecting our planet.
